The DataGauss MAX and LG-MAX is one of the most powerful and compact continuous degaussers for Hard Drives and Backup Tapes in the VS Security Products range. It uses state of the art pulse discharge technology to achieve a complete secure erasure. Media that can be erased includes both hard drives that use perpendicular and longitudinal recording techniques, including 5,000 Oersteds and all common backup tapes.
The erasure log software, exclusive to the LG-MAX unit, records all operating and degaussing information, which can be saved and printed, giving hard copy evidence of complete erasure for reporting and auditing purposes. Media erased is identified with automatically printed self adhesive labels with degaussed details, including media serial number.
The Datagauss LG-MAX comes with software for installation onto a PC or Laptop and easy to follow instructions. An optional barcode scanner is available for easier input.
The DataGauss MAX Operation
The Datagauss MAX is a compact table top chamber degausser, making operation safe, effective and simple for everyone. Operators slide the catch and the lid lifts up automatically. The media is then placed into the compartment and the lid closed. The erase cycle is started by pressing the “erase” button on the control panel, which activates the charging of the powerful degaussing field.
When the display states that the degaussing cycle is complete, the lid can be opened and media removed. The entire process takes just 15 seconds. Throughout the erase cycle, the on board processor monitors the procedure, ensuring that it is completed correctly. The operator is immediately alerted to any interruptions in the erase cycle by messages displayed on the LCD control panel.
NOTE: After degaussing, hard drives should not be reused, as they are stressed in the erasure process. Some backup tapes may not be reusable after degaussing due to the servo track being erased.
Safe & Secure: With safety in mind and to meet the latest ICNIRP Magnetic Exposure Guidelines, the Datagauss Max magnetic field is less than a second in duration and is designed to be concentrated inside the degaussing chamber.
The DataGauss LG-MAX Operation
The Datagauss LG-MAX can be used stand alone, or if connected to a PC or Laptop via the USB cable, can be used in conjunction with the erasure log software. This will log all the information related to the erasure and provide a printed report if required. The information logged includes details of the processing company, media owner, degausser machine, serial number, part number and size of the hard drive or tape. Information is entered onto the software via keyboard, or optional barcode scanner to speed up data entry, if required.
With the optional label printer selected, after the degauss cycle is complete, a label is printed, which can be applied to the hard drive or tape, confirming it has been erased. The label contains the serial number, date & time and confirmation of degaussing as standard. Other fields can also be selected and added in the supervisor mode.
When the logging program has been opened on a PC and the Datagauss LG-MAX is connected, the operator clicks the “Find Machine” button for all the unit's details to be automatically entered into the log, including model, serial number and firmware version. Further data regarding operator, customer and media is then entered before the hard drive or tape is placed into the degausser and the lid closed. The erasure is commenced by clicking the “Destroy” button on the screen.
A window opens on the screen showing the progress of the degaussing cycle. When the display shows the degauss cycle is complete, the lid can be opened and the media removed. The entire process takes just 15 seconds. Throughout the erase cycle, the on-board processor monitors the erase procedure ensuring that it is completed correctly.
The lower portion of the screen now shows all the details of the erasure, including date, time, media serial number, capacitor voltage, magnetic gauss field and confirmation that the media was degaussed successfully. If this data is highlighted, a report can be printed with all of the details on screen. As new media is erased, the details will be added to the Media Processed Log in the lower half of the screen. By highlighting erase records, the logs of one or more can be printed as required.
There is also a supervisor section in the software, which is password protected. This allows the supervisor to decide which fields are required and which fields must be completed by the operator. The log record can be stored anywhere on the PC or Network to ensure it is backed up. The log can also be archived at any time, by exporting as a .CSV file. NOTE: After degaussing, hard drives should not be reused, as they are stressed in the erasure process. Some backup tapes may not be reusable after degaussing due to the servo track being erased.
Safe & Secure: With safety in mind and to meet the latest ICNIRP Magnetic Exposure Guidelines, the Datagauss LG-MAX magnetic field is less than a second in duration and is designed to be concentrated inside the degaussing chamber.
